Cows win.

I’m taking an illustration workshop class that is taught by three illustrators and we are are our third and last, Mr. Daniel Bejar. Daniel is a very personable and funny guy. Although I dislike editorial illustration, on the basis that I don’t think of myself being as strong with metaphors as I would like, I want to do good for Daniel.
This piece was to illustrate an article about how humans are altering bovine DNA to produce what we would consider super cows. I landed on chess to show how domestic cattle are just our pawns until we can win with our king of a cow.
In the game of chess…

Brighten the Day
April 11, 2009Well hello there,
I guess to start things off for me in the blogging world I’ll post my latest project. I’ve been rather interested in non-traditional illustration lately and I started researching different ways illustration can be utilized in the design world. So, I decided to do a t-shirt design for my last project in my illustration class. I chose a theme, “Brighten the Day”, and tried to tap into that part of my brain that shut down about two years ago since I’ve been in college and things became way too hectic.
I ended up landing on the idea of making a design with a heart-shaped lightbulb being turned on by the occupant of the t-shirt. I guess it’s a kind of idealism coming out of me, that people should be more willing to spread love than hate.
I’m rather happy with the way it turned out and my fingers are crossed that my professor will like it. If things go smoothly, I’ll be submitting it to Threadless.com in hopes of having the design pick up.
